Zurigo/Firenze – Le Statue will be shown in Zurich
June 19, 2019
After two successful exhibitions in Firenze (Italy), Gino Granieri brings his first international exhibition “Zurigo/Firenze – Le Statue” to Zurich.
With the Exhibition Zurigo/Firenze – Le Statue, Photographer Gino Granieri takes a glance to the statues, which are covering the public picture of the two cities Zurich and Florence. With those pictures, the Medici’s and the old Swiss meet in a dialogue of stone and bronze. An Elephant stands on his beak and Perseus holds Medea’s head triumphantly in the nightly sky. The known meets the unknown, history meets modern. It’s the artists purpose to show the usual out of an unusual perspective and consequently take the viewer to a new sight about the two old towns.
Vernissage is on the 4th July 2019 18:00 at Universitätsstrasse 42, 8006 Zurich
The Birth of Neo
January 9, 2019
Four years ago, I had the idea to bring classic artworks of art history to modern times. After my first exhibition at Roccart Gallery in Florence in Summer 2018, I was asked by the gallerist to produce pictures for an erotic exhibition to be held during “Pitti Uomo” fashion week in Florence, Italy during January 2019.
Almost on a natural way, the themes Erotic’s, Florence and the put on scene of old famous artworks, I had the idea to transform Botticelli’s famous painting “The Birth of Venus” into today’s modern times and confront the audience with topics like “Globalization”, “Digitalization” and “Gender-Discussion”. Instead of Digital composing, I deliberated on traditional studio work, which caused to have a huge cast list at the end. A stage designer was necessary as well as a fashion consultant and make up artists. The idea to recreate a shell out of old tires was created in the team, as well as build an island out of PET-Rubbish to shout out the tremendous environmental condition on the seas of our planet.
The casting of the models was on purpose. It shall reflect the modern life of multicultural societies, respecting the Renaissance times where for the first time individuals could find and define themselves. It was as well purpose that I put the man Neo in the shell for representing the male act in the sense of gender equal rights. This to make him adored as a libidinous object of desire.
During the shooting the team developed the idea to put Smartphones in the hand of the erotic characters. With this idea the second picture was created in which the game of the adored and appetent regards, which at the time were dedicated to Venus, now is limited straight to the own so much intelligent phone. At the times characters of the narcissist was limited to the borne in the shell, today anybody can declare him- and herself to his/her own narcissist. Everybody can declare his own personality to a star. The fact that this manic mechanism of self-staging, which is clearly visible in the second picture on a satiric way, can lead to strange results which is shown by Neo. While his smartphone protects his pudency as it would be another gadget feature of his device, he gives an amazed view to the flower in his hand as would tell the flower him much more about this world than all the smart talk, all the smart technology ever would be able to do this. The ironic punch line: In a world of permanent digital exchange, in a world with complete communication between absentees, the analogue, the simple presence of a tender fragrant flower, makes it to a Star.
